About

Three years ago, my aunt told me I should start a blog featuring my bargain hunting prowess, and so began the journey that is Tank Top and Tennis Shoe Girl.  As with everything in life, things change–often in directions we can’t predict.  With Sid by my side every step of the way, we sold the house of our dreams in Texas and headed north in pursuit of dirt and family.  So here I am with my furry little sidekick living in the old farm house my dad grew up in, experiencing a culture (and climate) shock beyond my expectations, and  pursuing new endeavors I’d never imagined.

As we embark on 2018, we find our Soles with Goals Team running strong, I am attempting to sew my first quilt, and Sid and I have great ambitions for this year’s garden.  Only time will tell what other adventures await this city duo turned farm folk in this grand old Land of 10,000 Lakes.

A Look Back at How it All Began…

Welcome!  I’m Nichole, and this is my trusty and always-involved sidekick, Sid.  As a tank top and tennis shoe loving gal, I take a practical, get out there and do it yourself approach to life in sensible style.  I love to eat, stay moving, and digging in the dirt to see what grows.  Value seeking and bargain hunting are a game for me.

At times, money is tighter than others.  I think that’s the reality for most of us.  I am by no means an expert, but I’ve learned ways to adapt as financial situations fluctuate.  This site brings together ideas that I’ve used in my life.  Some suggestions you may find useful, maybe some will make you laugh and say, “Really?!”, but mostly I hope they inspire you to get creative and bring together the ideas that work in your life to provide the right balance between money, family, health, and home.

Good Luck with your new home. At least you are a little closer to Missouri. What a shock for Sid to see snow. Wishing you the best!

Thanks! I’m less than 4 hours from good ol’ MO now! I will be able to visit more often–the reality of that dawned on me Thursday. Once Sid got outside, I couldn’t get him back in again! Of course he’d been cooped up for a couple of weeks. Once it warms up a bit (not sure how I define that here yet), I’ll let him out more. We’re living in an awesome house and setting for a cat! The house has tons of big windows. The yard is huge with really tall trees, birds, a creek…
